The American Dream Is living in America a dream come true or is living in America a dream deferred? Many can identify the American dream as a chance to be successful and prosper, where one is allowed to become wealthy, have a healthy family, and so much more. Getting a job and earning reasonable wages was the obvious way to reach the American dream of becoming wealthy. The goal of the American dream has never been the same, and it has changed over time.
Before and during the Age of Exploration, America was believed to have vast amount of land. Almost all of this land was unconquered and was filled with unacquired rich resources. Therefore, explorers influenced the American dream to specifically relate to acquiring land and resources. However, during the rise of industry the American dream was believed to have the opportunity to succeed. The rise of industry provided many jobs in factories. Also, America was seen as a place that welcomed immigrants giving them the idea you can go from poor to rich, such as Andrew Carnegie had. Basically, industrialist changed the ideas of the American dream, using technology and factories to attract immigrants to come. Also, America provided jobs, but not necessarily can a citizen easily receive a job.
